Migrating from Old Story UI to New Story UI

This guide show you how you can migrate stories from the "Old UI" to the "New UI". You can learn more about the new story-writing UI in this dedicated guide.

Assuming you have an old story like this:

<setting>
Love story between a werewolf and a vampire.

Characters:

Name: Bella
Age: 19
Bella is a vampire who is in love with Cedric.

Name: Cedric
Age: 21
Cedric is a werewolf who is in love with Bella.
</setting>

<instruction>
Bella and Cedric meet in a coffee shop.
</instruction>

It was a rainy day when Bella and Cedric met in a coffee shop...

You can migrate it to the new UI like this:

1. Create a New Story

Go to the new Stories page and click "Start with a blank slate" button at the top.

2. Setup the Story

Once you create a new story, you will end up in the story scenario editor. Here you can copy over your plot and characters. Based on the above example, it should look liket this:

Migrated Story

Now just click "Save" and then "Start Writing".

3. Copy the Story Content

Now you can copy over the story content from the old story to the new story. Go to your old story, and click "Copy text" in the bottom right corner. The paste the content into the new story.

4. Continue Writing

Now your old story is migrated, and you can continue writing it in the new UI. Make sure to read the new Story Writing guide to learn about all the new features.

Here's the highlight:

  • Better models: Choose a model from "opus-v1-sm", "opus-v1-lg" or "opus-v1-xl". The new models are more capable writers, and can follow more complex instructions.
  • Better UI: Rather than fiddling with the plain text <setting> and <instruction> blocks, you get a sidebar, where you can edit the plot and the characters (and locations, and items, etc.) and a button to add instructions.
  • Ability to disable instructions: Many users do not want the model to generate instructions -- you can now disable that in the sidebar as well, in the Model tab. Just select "Do not generate instructions" at the bottom.
