We Tested Janitor+: Here's What Actually Changed

With the launch of Janitor’s new subscription tier, we knew it was time to shake the dust off the characters from our previous test of the free JanitorAI experience.

We mainly focused on testing Janitor+’s JLLM-related improvements: longer context, enhanced swipes, fast replies, and jllm-short, to see what differences they would bring to already established chats.

Besides those, there’s really only the Janitor+ badge left.

Oh, and new emoji access in comment sections.

The responses for each character came much faster, despite being of similar length to those from our test of the free site. The improved memory capacity manifested when our character, Eric, recalled a particular detail he’d had trouble remembering before this test. The enhanced swipes feature was particularly impressive, producing responses with great analysis and real intrigue. Turning on jllm-short cuts down the length of responses to achieve a fast-paced chat-style conversation. 

After testing across two characters with different session lengths, we can say that Janitor+ mostly delivers on its promised features. Whether that's worth $12.99 depends entirely on how you use the platform, which is exactly what the rest of this article addresses.

We revisited our first chat with Sophie, our custom character, previously conducted with JLLM.

In the chatroom with Sophie we experienced much quicker replies (around four seconds, as opposed to the free JLLM of over twenty seconds), given that the responses were around the same length as the free JLLM’s. This made us curious to see what the jllm-short responses would be like.

It is stated in the chat settings that jllm-short doesn't work with Deep reasoning, but we proceeded with it.

Come to find out that while Sophie’s replies came fast and concise, they maintained character integrity and plot adherence.

For reference, the image below shows the last response during our test of the free JanitorAI.

However, roleplayers should note that turning off Deep reasoning reduces the extra frills — such as perspective insight and scene progression — that expand the perspective and promote immersion in the roleplay.

To put the varying outcomes into a broader perspective for you, we generated different response styles (normal “JLLM” response, Deep reasoning, and jllm-short, respectively) for two prompts with Sophie.

Clearly, neither response style lacks engrossing responses. The best choice would be based solely on your preference. It bears mentioning again how impactful the speed of these responses could be for an immersive roleplay.

To test the new-and-improved memory capacity of Janitor+, we recalled Eric Sokolov from our second session with JanitorAI — Dean’s obsessive bodyguard.

During our session, Eric lost memory of a key detail (we were going to see a “Judge Judy”) quite early in the conversation, and, given the length of the chat (around 40+ messages), we decided to test Janitor+’s memory capacity with this.

Using Janitor+, we pushed the character to recall the first judge we had mentioned to him.

The character maintained his incorrect answer, which we weren't satisfied with, but we felt it was understandable, given that the chat still had a history of incorrect responses.

We went for an enhanced swipe, and Eric finally produced the right answer — with an intriguing insight into his perspective that justified his earlier decision to ignore that answer as an option.

The Janitor+ enhanced swipe feature meets the requirements of a standard regeneration feature: the responses preserve character integrity, conform to the plot, and initiate actions that make for stimulating scenarios.

Overall, this feature achieves diversity in replies, which is what users want when they hit a reroll.

Community Reaction: Users Understand the Cost, but Question the Value
