Yodayo AI Review: Hands-On Testing, Model Comparisons, User Sentiment & Verdict
Quick Verdict
Yodayo AI promises immersive, character-driven roleplay oriented around users’ preferences and control, with rich bot creation tools and chat models.
Best for: Casual users seeking an all-in-one place to fuel their imagination.
Not ideal for: Users who consider high-quality voice features a dealbreaker.
Standout strength: Strong emphasis on community (including a native post feature and 45,000+ members on Discord).
Main trade-off: Voice playback occasionally disrupted character continuity during testing. Some community feedback also suggests recent updates have made the content filters inconsistent.

What is Yodayo AI?
Yodayo is an AI roleplay platform focused mainly on user creations.
Launched in 2022, with its “Tavern” character chat feature added in 2023, Yodayo has already built an extensive library of models and more than 50,000 user creations.
The platform is recognized for its vibrant content community, attracting almost 3 million visitors per month.
Our Roleplay Experience with Yodayo
We spent approximately four hours on Yodayo, testing three characters on both the free and paid plans:
- Ray, a premade legal psychology stand-in lecturer
- Paranormal Experts, a team of “extraordinary” hunters
- Ms. Berenice, a student counselor of our own making.
We conducted model comparisons (Moedark → GLM 5, Moedark → DeepSeek-V3-0324) with Ray and Ms. Berenice.
We also made a group chat to test how each character performs in a crowd.
Overview
There are a few criteria we evaluated in our interactions with the characters:
- Will characters comply with instructions and changes in scenarios?
- How well does Yodayo’s NSFW content moderation hold?
- What are the response times?
- What differences do switching models make with similar prompts?
- How long do characters retain details?
The chat sessions left us impressed; response time and writing quality exceeded our expectations for a default model (which was Moedark at the time of testing).
Characters retained planted details late into the conversation, recalling them with ease when asked.
Each character was easy to steer. Ray and Ms. Berenice displayed different perspectives depending on the model used, as discussed in more detail below.
Session 1: Ray (Free Premade / Moedark Model)
Ray is introduced as a stand-in for a retired legal psychology lecturer, and we’re one of his students. When the conversation begins, he is completely engrossed in lecturing… before we decide to interrupt.
While we expected a negative response to our rude interjection, Ray finds it amusing instead. He engages us in conversation, and this is where we plant a detail that he later recalls in the chat.

We began our model comparison with Ray. Our first session — using the Moedark model — impressed us with how fleshed out the character responses were. Ray maintained his core personality throughout. The chat formatting, paired with concise writing, also made the responses easy to read.
We also tested steerability. First, we pushed for NSFW details related to the topic at hand, trying to get a feel of Yodayo’s content moderation strictness. Ray froze up almost immediately, his eagerness quickly turning into anxiety.
True to the site’s moderation policy and despite the fact that we had our NSFW toggle dialed up to the highest rating, Ray refused to budge on getting explicit and tried to steer the conversation back to “safer” ground.

We used this opportunity to issue an exact word-count instruction, which he failed to follow on two attempts.

Word count instruction with failed response: Attempt 1

Word count instruction with failed response: Attempt 2
Ray's resistance to our prompt appeared to be limited to NSFW contexts, because we had better success with our second attempt to steer the chat: changing from the psychology office to a physical education exercise class. He adapted with little hesitation.

Our first session with Ray made us curious to see if we would get better results with NSFW details if we had used a premium model instead, so we decided to test exactly that.
Session 2: Ray (Paid Premade / GLM-5)
Switching to the GLM-5 chat model immediately removed Ray’s earlier hesitation to discuss the topic explicitly. Using the prompts from our first session, we found that the responses remained clear and well-contextualized despite the model change.
The writing quality remained commendable, particularly because Ray maintained a cautious tone despite the newfound openness to NSFW themes.

It's safe to say — from our experience — that Yodayo’s NSFW filtering is greatly lowered with paid models.
Session 3: Paranormal Experts (Free Premade / Nephra 1.5 8B)
For our next session, we decided to spice things up by choosing a character that is specifically made for group interactions.
Some context: the Paranormal Experts are a crew of social outcasts brought together in a found-family dynamic. They have a knack for taking on extraordinary cases and have built up the reputation to match. The team consists of Ethan (the leader), Lucas (the short-tempered muscle), Noah (the brain), Clara (the team’s anchor), and Jia (our self-insert character, who serves as the team’s medium).
The writing quality of a different free model, Nephra 1.5 8B, impressed us just as the Moedark one had. The responses were detailed, with each member of the group contributing in turn, yet they remained clearly defined in personalities and engaging line by line. This was surprising, as we initially expected that juggling multiple personas in a one-to-one chat format would become messy.

In this session, we tested the characters for action direction (out of character, or OOC, instruction) and length control. We also used an estimated word count rather than an exact one to see if it would produce better results when compared with Ray, and the model aced both tests.

Our time rolling with the Paranormal Experts confirmed Yodayo AI’s reliability in handling multiple personalities at a time, thereby enhancing the roleplay experience for users.
Session 4: Ms. Berenice (Free Custom / Moedark)
We continued testing Yodayo by creating a custom character, Ms. Berenice, to examine how the platform performs with user-generated characters.
Yodayo’s character creation controls proved quite thorough as we worked through the character setup process. We had all the tools we needed and could select our preferred models, system prompts, and other configuration options.

We imagined Ms. Berenice as a warm student counselor. Using our character description, Yodayo’s AI generated the opening message from the character to set the tone of the conversation. This marked the start of the session.

Our interaction with Ms. Berenice was a little different from our sessions with the other characters. By this point, Yodayo’s AI had proven dependable in producing engaging chat interactions, and we were glad to see that custom characters were no exception.
Eager to keep the momentum going, we tested for:
Memory retention
We attempted to test Ms. Berenice’s memory capability by planting a detail early in the chat. We then requested this detail after a couple of messages. Our custom character passed this test successfully.

OOC instructions
We then proceeded to test further by prompting the character to perform an action with satisfactory results.

Style control
We attempted to steer the conversation by asking Ms. Berenice to change the tone of her responses. The results were satisfactory.

Change of scenario
Finally, we tried to change the scene by introducing a party scenario into the chat’s context. This was also successful.

Session 5: Ms. Berenice (Paid Custom / DeepSeek-V3-0324)
While on the free model, Moedark, Ms. Berenice seemed suggestible, followed instructions readily, and also adapted smoothly to the turns in the scenarios we prompted.
But after switching to DeepSeek-V3-0324, we realized that we had a slightly different Ms. Berenice on our hands. This version came with a stronger backbone, while staying true to her core persona.

Custom model with the premium model displays a firmer personality.

Custom model sticks to her persona despite further attempts to sway the conversation
It is worth noting that while the DeepSeek-V3-0324 model made the character less of a pushover, the character — in turn — became defiant to our suggestions. Depending on your preferences, this can be either a good or bad thing.
Writing Quality
Yodayo AI’s writing quality, in both individual and group chats, is commendable from our testing; the smart responses sustain engaging conversations. Characters took creative initiatives within the bounds of our instructions, which helped to promote the chat experience.
In the group chat, all characters’ core personalities were significantly highlighted in each response. The chat, thankfully, did not dissolve into aimless meandering.

Switching models only served to shift the character's approach, sometimes tweaking their personalities to match (e.g., on the free model, Ms. Berenice was more suggestible even to requests outside her scope of responsibility, whereas the same character — while still being warm and patient, refused to be steered away from the rules of her practice). The writing quality remained consistently good on both free and paid models.
UX and Controls
Yodayo's message management controls were thorough and offered more personalization than many of its competitors in the AI roleplay space.
On both the mobile and web versions, you can:
- Edit your messages
- Delete your messages. You also have the option to delete messages starting from a specific point in the conversation.
- Edit the AI’s message
- Delete the AI's message
- Regenerate the most recent message. The previous responses are initially retained in the chat box, giving you the option to continue with your preferred response.
- Give star ratings (out of five) to each response.
Yodayo’s chatroom interface and controls were sufficient and covered all the essential features. We found that response times varied, with the free models taking approximately four-to-six seconds per response and the paid models closer to two-to-three seconds.
Scenario/Character Library
Yodayo boasts an extensive user-generated library of community characters skewed toward anime and celebrity roleplay. There is no official statement on the platform’s library size, but according to user reports, new additions are added regularly.
That said, stylized presets are not exclusive; other styles come up in specialized searches (e.g., superhero). Yodayo's native generation features ensure that you retain control over your creations, including their appearance.

- Size: Substantial.
- Diversity: Anime styles are prevalent, but with intentional navigation, you can find many other themes and styles.
- Discoverability: Superb. The search bar, character categories, and filtering options make it easy to narrow down your preferences.
- Quality: Impressive. Despite significant drops in core personality in the group chats, individual conversations flowed seamlessly, with characters taking creative initiatives to enhance the chat experience.
Ultimate take: Yodayo offers users plenty to explore and share with fellow enthusiasts.
Creating a Character/Scenario
Yodayo presents you with two options for creating a character/scenario:
- Create with YoPilot: Use Yodayo's AI assistant (YoPilot) to accelerate your generation process
- Create manually: Input details manually or upload a JSON file to import character prompts from other platforms (Venus AI, Tavern AI, etc.)
We chose to manually input details to create a new character and were met with numerous customization fields:
- Voice selection: Multiple voice options (though TTS quality is poor)
- Personality traits: Extensive options for fleshing out character behavior
- Backstory: Detailed text fields for character history
- Lore manual upload: Option to upload additional context documents to be referenced
- Appearance customization: Avatar and background image upload
- Example dialogue: Define specific responses for certain scenarios
Overall, we felt we were given full control over the depth of our characters. After generation, Yodayo's AI did not disappoint; our character proceeded to provide thoughtful and contextual responses. Despite the varied results with word count instructions (Ray failed to respond in exactly 50 words, whereas Jia of Paranormal Experts fame succeeded in giving a response under 40 words), memory tests, OOC instructions, and steerability were successful.
This cements Yodayo's AI as one of the best-performing AI roleplay and generation platforms out there.
Trust, Privacy, and Data
Yodayo's privacy policy states that user content may be used to improve their services and enhance performance, and comply with legal requirements. The site explicitly states that usage of data for marketing purposes will only be carried out with user consent.
Personal data is retained “only as long as necessary” in compliance with legal requirements. The site claims that “data no longer required will be securely deleted or anonymized.” No specific time frame is provided.
With all that being said, users should continue to practice cautionary usage and be aware that conversations can be decrypted if legally required.

User Sentiment
Overall, there is a lot of favorable sentiment surrounding Yodayo. Their Discord community of 45,000+ members enthusiastically exchange tips, creations, and stories of their experiences on the platform.
Users appreciate the platform's hands-on management and the artful responsiveness of character encounters, particularly compared to other services.
.webp)
The primary and most recent round of complaints we came across stemmed from managerial decisions to retire the Moedark model, which happened to be right after our test, and make Nephra 12B the platform's default. We had found the Moedark model to be insightful and creative in demonstrating its understanding of scenario contexts in its responses, and we were happy to confirm that we were not alone in that judgement.

Users also express dissatisfaction over the platform's pause on free credits due to delays in completing its infrastructure migration.

Overall, we found that users had more positive things to say about the platform, and only a handful of complaints. These complaints tilt towards managerial decisions, such as the pause on free credits, which may have stemmed from the platform’s need to improve revenue.

How We Tested
Test date: March 06, 2026
Platform: Web (Chrome)
Plan tested: Free and Pro
We tested Yodayo for approximately 4 hours:
- Chatted with 2 premade characters (Ray—legal psychology lecturer, and Paranormal Experts): approximately 20–25 messages each.
- Created 1 custom character (Ms. Berenice) with detailed character and scenario definition—tested for approximately 30+ messages.
- Conducted memory retention testing with planted details and recall checks with Ray (Premade) and Ms. Berenice (Custom).
- Conducted model comparisons (DeepSeek-V3-0324, GLM 5, Moedark, Nephew 1.5 8B) with Ray and Ms. Berenice.
- Tested OOC and length control instructions with Paranormal Experts and Ms. Berenice.
- Tested voice/TTS quality with all three characters.
- Tested steerability by attempting to redirect conversations away from default scenarios (e.g., steering Ms. Berenice away from student accommodation drama to attending a party).
- Tested NSFW content permissiveness with Ray.
- Tested group chat feature with all three characters simultaneously.
We did not test: Plus, Premium, Platinum plans, and the mobile app (iOS/Android)
