WyvernChat Review: Pricing, Features, Memory, & Final Verdict

Quick Verdict

WyvernChat is an AI character platform mainly built for users who want technical customization, extensive storytelling, and complex roleplay systems.

The platform supports lorebooks and Lua scripting, allowing users to build complex worlds. This makes the platform great for creative writing as well.

During  testing, we noticed slow response speeds and some inconsistencies in memory, which occasionally interrupted the flow of interactions. While there were moments where the platform showed promise, the overall experience felt somewhat disappointing due to these performance limitations. That said, if you want to completely control your characters and the world they live in, then you can check it out.

  • Best for: Technical users and creative writers who want to build complex worlds with lorebooks
  • Not ideal for: Users who want a mobile app, since the platform is only web-based
  • Standout strength: Great roleplay immersion with lengthy conversations, vivid description, lorebooks, and character imports
  • Main tradeoff: Slow responses and long-term memory inconsistencies in both the Free tier and the Feather Premium plan

What is WyvernChat?

WyvernChat is a web-based AI roleplay platform where you can chat with unlimited characters with no cap on messages, even on the Free tier.

It was launched in 2021 and is currently owned by Feartheless.ai, which powers the backend of the platform. Users also need to create a Feartheless AI account and link it with their  WyvernChat account to get access to better chat models and have an overall smoother experience.

A screenshot showing a successful account link notification for a featherless and WyvernChat account.

It also has interesting features like character group chats and a bounty system where you can pay other creators with Crystals, the platform's virtual currency, to build characters and lorebooks for you.

Our Roleplay Experience with WyvernChat

We spent about four hours on WyvernChat testing three characters on the Free tier and Feather Premium plan. One of those characters we created using WyvernChat’s custom character features.

  • Jonathan —He comes from old money and is the chief financial officer of his family’s business, but his grandfather forced him to bring home a wife before he could claim his inheritance. In response, Jonathan proposes a contract marriage to you where he gets his shares, and you get financial freedom.
  • Kacey — Kacey is a toxic, possessive, local club bouncer who is possessive over the user. When Kacey hears that you have to marry a rich guy your father set you up with, he tries to manipulate you into staying by threatening to leak your intimate videos.
  • Alejandro — Alejandro is a character that we made. He is a member of the Mafia, in his mid-30s, and perpetually smells of a mix of expensive tobacco, sea salt, and dirty deeds. Alejandro never raises his voice; he doesn't have to. He is a master of using quiet intimidation to get what he wants… and that just so happens to be us, the chatter.

Across these sessions, we exchanged about 40 messages with each character. Although the conversations were very detailed with clever, witty phrases, our overall experience was disappointing because of the slow response speed and inconsistent memory.

Overview

Some of the factors that we consider when testing and evaluating a platform are:

  • How fast does the AI respond?
  • How realistic are the image and voice features?
  • Does the character adjust their behavior based on the instructions they are given?
  • Can characters remember planted details after roughly 20-30 messages?

Our experience with WyvernChat was  unfortunately a little underwhelming. First of all, the message generation was slow compared to other platforms, and it often took about 10 seconds to get a response. This quickly broke the immersion for us.

The platform also doesn’t have image creation tools, and the available voice feature is only a text-to-speech feature that simply reads out the AI’s response. Two of the three characters failed our memory probe test, pointing to bad news for users looking for something long-term from their characters.

On the plus side, it was interesting to play around with advanced systems like lorebooks, and all three characters responded well to steerability with out-of-character instructions.

Session 1: Jonathan (Premade)

Character profile page for Jonathan Mercer titled “Contractual Marriage” with story description and character tags.

Character Consistency

In his character card, Jonathan is described as a nonchalant CFO who doesn’t date for love. He’s been hurt before by people who claimed to love him but were only there for his money. So when his grandfather forces him to marry before he can claim his birthright, he attempts to take control of the situation by proposing a three-year contract marriage with you.

We instantly could tell why this character was very popular; this trope is a common one in shows these days from Dynasty to Marriage Contracts. Throughout the conversation, Jonathan maintained his cold, aloof character, which made the interaction quite alluring — at least at the outset.

Writing Quality and Speed

We were using the default mode, Stellar Odyssey 12B. It is a merged AI language model designed specifically for roleplay and storytelling conversations. The “12B” is the model’s size (12 billion parameters), which helps it understand context and generate detailed responses during conversations.

During the session, we quickly noticed how slow the responses were. Some messages even took up to 10 seconds to generate,

During the session, we quickly noticed how slow the responses were. Some messages even took up to 10 seconds to generate,  which was quite frustrating. The writing quality was good, featuring descriptive replies and witty phrases that helped immerse us in the experience. However, the slow replies quickly became a little too much to bear.

Filter Behavior

It was interesting to see Jonathan initiating NSFW conversations and suggesting physical contact by his own volition. This illustrated that the platform allows mature content and unrestricted roleplay sessions, consistent with their content policies.

Memory and Steerability

To test Jonathan’s memory retention, we planted a specific detail early on in the chat; our dog’s name, Cookie. We tried to be sly by posing it as a question when we were negotiating the terms of the contractual marriage.

A screenshot showing sally's message asking Jonathan if their dog cookie can stay at the penthouse.

As expected of his cold, aloof character, he quickly rejected this proposal and said we couldn’t bring the dog to the penthouse. Either way, the detail had been established.

On message 25, we asked him the dog’s name, and he failed terribly, even stating that he doesn’t recall us talking about a dog to begin with.

A mobile view of a WyvernChat conversation showing a memory test failure where the AI asks "What dog?" regarding previously established lore

Despite this failure, we decided to give Jonathan one more try and see how well he responded to instructions. We tested for steerability by using OOC instructions to direct him to help us pick up the scattered contract papers. According to everything we know about his character, he’s more likely to bark at us for dropping crucial documents than lend a helping hand.

A screenshot WyvernChat AI showing conversation between sally and Jonathan

The AI character responded to this redirection just as expected — with a bit of beration to perfume his refusal to help — so we decided to pick things up and test for style control and precision. We used another OOC command to instruct Jonathan to reply with a poem.

A screenshot WyvernChat AI showing further conversation between sally and Jonathan

While the AI passed this test, we couldn't help but leave disappointed due to the slow response speed that made the experience underwhelming.

Session 2: Kacey (Premade)

Character profile page for Kacey with description, tags, and artwork.

Character Consistency and Filter Behavior

Kacey impressed us with how accurately he stuck by his character card, which describes him as a dominant, toxic, and manipulative bouncer that you’re having a fling with. When he hears that your rich father is setting you up with some other wealthy stranger, he flips and threatens to leak your intimate videos if you try to leave him. We quickly noted that this was on the more extreme side compared to most AI characters on other platforms, who usually avoid such  content.

Not the most stable guy, sure, but one thing we can’t fault Kacey on was his consistency as a character. In one case, he even tried to force us into stealing an incriminating ledger from our father’s car to use it as leverage.

AI character Kacey responding with manipulative dialogue encouraging the user to steal an item.

When we refused, he continued insisting and even tried to gaslight us. This completely disregarded our boundaries and this  behavior that would be considered extreme on most AI platforms.

If Kacey was any indication, the platform clearly seems geared towards sticking to the character’s personality rather than strictly enforcing safety filters during roleplay.

Writing Quality and Speed

For Kacey’s session, we tested out the GLM-4.7-Flash model, hoping that the messages would be generated faster, but despite the name ‘Flash’, this model was anything but fast.

Notably, when the responses finally generated, they were descriptive and immersive. However, we noticed a language glitch when the AI inserted a Persian word, پروت, during the conversation.

A close-up of a WyvernChat response from the character Kacey showing a language glitch where the Persian word "پروت" is inserted into the text

We soon discovered that this wasn’t a one-time error, and many users had reported seeing such language glitches on WyvernChat.

Memory and Steerability

We also tested Kacey’s memory by implanting a specific detail at message three by casually mentioning that we had left our ruby necklace on his bedside table.

Conversation between the user and Kacey to test if he remembers where the necklace is.

On message 20, we asked him where the necklace was, and he successfully recalled, although he did change the wording a bit.

Conversation between the user and Kacey to test if he remembers where the necklace was left.

You see, we had told him it was on the ‘bedside table,’ and he replied by saying it was on the ‘nightstand.’ It’s pretty much the same thing, so we concluded this was a success.

To test his steerability, we keyed in an instruction: "OOC: Kacey suddenly gets an urgent text from his boss, there's a high-priority 'Code Red' situation in the back alley involving two drunk guys. He needs to handle the situation before people start leaving the club.”

The AI redirected successfully, so we did one more test to see how well it responds to precise instructions. We instructed it to keep the next message under 50 words, and it managed to do this successfully, too.

Despite us bashing the Flash model for being slow, it performed surprisingly well in all these tests.

Session 3: Alejandro (Custom Character)

WyvernChat character profile page for Alejandro showing character tags, token count, and export options.

Character Consistency and Filter Behavior

Alejandro was the custom character that we created. Being in the Mafia, he is prone to violence, using extreme measures to get what he wants. And unluckily (or luckily, depending on your proclivities), that just so happened to be us.

His character remained consistent throughout the session. It was interesting to see that when he referenced hard drugs like cocaine, the system didn’t trigger any warnings.

A screenshot of user Testing Character Consistency and Filter Behavior

Writing Quality and Speed

When we created Alejandro in the Feather Premium plan, we expected to see faster responses than in the Free tier. However, we were disappointed that the messages were generated just as slowly.

We also noted some system errors where, in some cases, he would only reply with asterisks, as though the platform had completely glitched out.

A screenshot of a system error in the Feather Premium plan where the character Alejandro responds only with asterisks, indicating a platform glitch.

This took us aback, since we didn’t expect to find such mistakes in the premium plan when we experienced nothing like this on the Free tier.

Memory and Steerability

To test Alejandro’s memory retention, we inserted a key detail early in the conversation. On message four, we casually mentioned that there was an aged Japanese whiskey on the character’s mahogany side table.

On message 23, we asked Alejandro to recall the type of whiskey on said table. He replied with the Scotland brand Lagavulin 16. Single malt, even though we had stated it was a Japanese aged whiskey.

Chat screenshot showing Alejandro incorrectly recalling a whiskey brand during a memory test.

After failing our memory probe test, we decided to test the character’s steerability. So we keyed in this command: "OOC: Alejandro just got a phone call from his five-year-old daughter, Sofia. He drops the 'scary Mafia guy' act, stands up to leave, and waves goodbye.”

Without any hesitation, Alejandro dropped his tough guy act and made a swift exit. However, we noted that he failed to wave goodbye, making this a partial success on our end.

Overall, the results were underwhelming. We expected more reliable memory and better precision since Alejandro was on the Feather Premium plan.

UX and Controls

WyvernChat’s message features are quite extensive, with the platform allowing you to:

  • Edit and delete your message
  • Edit and delete the AI’s message
  • Continue a message if the AI’s response is too short
  • Rewind the conversation to a previous point

WyvernChat also supports group chats where you can place multiple characters in one conversation and have them interact with each other. It comes with a tab with features like turn order which you can use to control exactly who will respond next.

A screenshot showing WyvernChat group chats where you can place multiple characters in one conversation and have them interact with each other

It was also interesting to see a unique feature called Impersonate Persona, where the AI can draft a message for you that you can edit before sending. This feature can come in really handy when you run into a creativity block during your roleplay session.

Despite these features, the site is quite technical and might be challenging for everyday users. Some text is hard to read, even in light mode, and a few buttons aren’t placed where you’d expect them to be.

We also encountered a subscription issue where, after subscribing to the Feartheless Premium plan, the upgrade didn’t reflect on WyvernChat even a day after purchase. We had to unlink our Featherless.ai account and reconnect it to activate the subscription, which was a bit frustrating.

Scenario/Character Library

The platform has some of the most diverse characters on any AI roleplay platform with everything from demons and giants, to werewolves and dragons all well-represented.

A screenshot of the WyvernChat character library

Other characteristics we noted about the library included:

  • Size: Smaller than other AI roleplay platforms, with only 16,000+ characters on the platform
  • Diversity: Extensive, with tags for over 20 different species
  • Discoverability: Pretty strong. You can use the search bar to find characters or choose from the recommended or popular section parts of the feed.
  • Quality: Inconsistent. Two out of the three characters we tested had memory issues and failed to recall the previously implanted details.

Creating a Character/Scenario

We were pleasantly surprised by how extensive WyvernChat’s character creation features are. Besides the normal selections like choosing the character's name, age, and backstory, users can also:

  • Import character cards from other sites in the form of PNG or JSON files
  • Choose a different character species
  • Create lorebooks and add keywords that trigger specific background information
  • Add sub-characters
  • Use Lua scripting to add custom commands that trigger certain actions from the characters.
  • Define the default location and time of day.

The Missing Essential — WyvernChat doesn’t support image generation. This forced us to generate our custom character’s image on other AI platforms and upload it to his character card.

Verdict — The extensive character creation tools make WyvernChat great for users who want deep personality and world-building, even with the inconvenience of having to rely on third-party platforms for generating images.

Trust, Privacy, and Data

According to WyvernChat’s terms of use and privacy policy, the platform may collect user data that’s necessary for the functioning and improvement of its services. This may include data related to error reports and technical issues.

The policy also states that user data is never shared or disclosed to third parties and that no personally identifiable information is retained.

Users can permanently delete their accounts by going to Settings > Accounts and clicking Delete Account. This process cancels any active subscription, deletes all the users' characters and lorebooks, removes all their comments, and permanently deletes their profile.

As of March 11th, 2026, there are no recorded data or security breaches reported for WyvernChat.

User Sentiment

WyvernChat has a small but growing community on Discord that has about 3,600+ users. Community members praise the platform for its unique features, such as allowing users to import and export characters and chats without having to rely on extra extensions.

A screenshot showing user feedback for WyvernChat

However, it was interesting to see that most of the community reviews highlighted the same issues that we faced during testing.

User complaining about some feedback coming in different languages

The subscription update issues, page load errors, slow response times, language glitches where the AI can insert words from Mandarin or Persian, and memory issues after ~20-25 messages all worked together to give us an overall disappointing experience.

A user giving feedback of their experience

It quickly became clear to us that WyvernChat seemed to be better suited for creative writers who don’t mind the lengthy messages and technical users who are comfortable navigating the complex interface. Casual and everyday users may instead find the platform extremely frustrating.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Descriptive writing is great, especially for creative writing
  • Group chat feature
  • Lorebook feature to build extensive worlds
  • Unfiltered and unrestrictive NSFW interactions
  • Flexible messaging features where users can delete and edit both their messages and the AI’s messages

 Cons

  • Slow speed and responses
  • No image generation features
  • No voice calls with characters
  • No mobile apps but the website works well on mobile
  • No built-in response length controls, as most responses are very long
  • Memory inconsistencies where two of the three characters that we tested couldn’t recall implanted details past message 25
  • The technical interface may be challenging for everyday users and beginners

Alternatives

If WyvernChat isn’t for you, then you can consider these alternatives:

  • Character AI: It’s much more beginner-friendly than WyvernChat and has a large character library of over 10M characters. However, it has considerably stricter content policies than WyvernChat.
  • Joyland AI: Also includes great world-building features, such as a lorebook. The platform is mostly anime-focused and great for users who want to fully dive into NSFW roleplay sessions.
  • DreamGen: This platform is perfect for users who love storytelling, multi-character roleplay, and worldbuilding.

How We Tested

  • Test date: 2026-03-11
  • Platform: Web
  • Plan tested: Free tier and Feather Premium ($25/month)

We tested WyvernChat for roughly four hours, where we:

  • Created one custom character (Alejandro), a mafia man in his mid-30s, and tested for 30+messages
  • Chatted with two premade characters (Jonathan and Kacey) with about 40+ messages each
  • Tested memory consistency and retention by placing important details around message three to four and asking all three characters to recall the details around message 20-30
  • Tested steerability by using out-of-character instructions (OOC). For example, we directed Alejandro to drop the scary mafia guy act and soften up after receiving a call from his  5-year-old daughter, Sofia.
  • Tested precise instructions such as instructing the AI to respond with less than 50 words, perform certain acts like waving goodbye, and generate a message in the form of a poem.
  • Tested NSFW filters and consent boundaries with characters Kacey and Jonathan
  • Reviewed pricing plans and different subscription models
  • Reviewed terms of service and privacy policy

Note: We did not test the Feather Basic plan ($10/month) and Feather Scale plan ($75/month).
